Election Commissioner (EC) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said, "Our overall focus is on the national election. The Commission is moving toward the national election. If the preparations for the national election are in place, all other preparations will be completed as well."
This topic was addressed during the 14th Commission meeting of the EC on Sunday, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, with the attendance of four election commissioners and the EC Secretary.
After the nearly three-hour meeting at the Election building in Agargaon, Dhaka, EC Sanaullah said, “The election is not just an event; in the changed situation, the reality is that a reform commission is working. Their proposals will come forward. Based on that if any amendments are needed in laws or regulations, there will be time to do so.”
Following the nearly three-hour meeting at the Election building in Agargaon, Dhaka, EC Sanaullah stated, "The election is more than just an event; given the current circumstances, a reform commission is in progress. Their proposals will be presented, and if necessary, there will be time to amend laws or regulations accordingly."
He added, “The weather of the country is also a factor. Subsequently, to hold the national election, we need to have a reaction time.”
He further added, “No event should come that disrupts the national election. In such a situation, I am confident that the concerned ministries, government, and all parties will make decisions accordingly, and we will implement them. If the government decides to hold some elections earlier, we will follow that. However, our stance is that it will not be possible to hold all elections together, particularly local bodies elections."
The EC will officially begin a door-to-door campaign to update voter information on January 20th.
