Home adviser to interim government Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury promised of electronic passport (E-Passport) by 31st December of this year, aiming brining down corruption in the sector to zero level and alleviating people’s measure in this regard.
He made these remarks after exchanging views with officials of the Department of Immigration & Passports on Monday to resolve various passport-related issues.
He said: “You all know about passports. Many people have written a lot about it. Since it is a service organization, the quality of its services should be improved. This is what has been told to related officials.
“The corruption has been reduced in this sector following new DG’s arrival, and it needs to be reduced further,” he said, adding: “Many people are still facing problem in getting passports.”
He said that he directed the DG to reduce people’s sufferings further and to bring corruption to zero level.
Mr Alam said: “It takes a long time for people to get passports in the district passport offices. To reduce all problems, we will convert all passports into electronic passports by December 31.”
