Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has expressed discontent over the existing caseload and warned of tough action if the case is lodged against anyone only for the intention of harassing them.
“We are noticing that many cases are being lodged now and many innocent people are being accused. We will take tough action if these cases are lodged only for harassment,” he said while talking to reporters at Barishal Police Line on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, the home adviser held a view exchange meeting with top government officials over the law and order situation prevailing in and around the area.
Claiming that the law and order situation in the division has improved, Alam ordered the police members to take action immediately if silent extortion is on elsewhere in the area.
“Place the issue before the Inspector General of Police (IGP) if anyone fails to comply with the order,” he said, clearing his stance against exhortation and irregularities.
He also ordered the police forces to bring the plaintiffs under the purview of action if they lodge false and fabricated cases against anyone.
“We have already issued a circular from the Ministry of Home Affairs so that such a case is not recorded,” said the home adviser.
A crisis was ongoing in the country’s police administration but the situation is improving gradually, he said, adding that it will take more time to completely get rid of the situation.
“I’ve been here for only three months. I don’t have any magic lamp like Aladdin’s that I can rub my hand and make things happen. It requires time and time must be given,” he said.
Calling upon the journalists to come forward against the prevailing trend of mob justice, he said all will have to play a vital role so that people cannot take the law into their own hands, meeting out punishment in a violent way.
