BNP's Vice Chairman and former Education Minister Dr. Osman Faruk said, “Nation's success depends on the success of the interim government.”
He made this remark after returning to the country following a lengthy and challenging exile, addressing the media on Friday at a hotel on Indira Road in the capital.
Dr. Osman Faruk claimed that the previous government has harassed him in various ways by accusing him of war crimes, asserting that no one will be able to prove his involvement in this regard.
He said, “Such accusations were made to create a leadership vacuum within the party.”
Dr. Osman Faruk further expressed that a conducive environment will return to the country.
Although he was at a distance from politics during his time abroad, he intends to remain engaged in BNP's politics, upholding his faith in the Zia family.
Earlier, on Thursday evening, this BNP vice chairman arrived at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with his family from the United States.
He had left the country in May 2016 when a case was filed against him and an arrest warrant was issued in connection with war crimes.
Dr. Osman Faruk is a former senior official of the World Bank and played a role in maintaining diplomatic relations with the United States as an advisor to the BNP chairperson.
He is also a two-time elected Member of Parliament from the Kishoreganj-3 constituency, and plans to visit his electoral area starting next week.
Upon returning to the country, Dr. Osman Faruk paid tribute to the shrine of BNP's founder, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, on Friday morning.
