Calling for unity to strengthen the democratic processes in the country, the Law adviser of the interim government Dr. Asif Nazrul said that lack of unity is the main challenge for achieving democracy. Therefore, everyone must unite.
He made these remarks on Thursday while speaking at a discussion meeting titled "Journey of Democracy: Upcoming Challenges and Ways to Overcoming Them."
Also present at the meeting were Ali Riaz (the head of the Constitution Reform Commission), Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman(member of the Constitution Reform Commission), journalists Monir Haider and Shahed Alam; political analyst Saiyed Abdullah; coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Hasnat Abdullah, Sarjis Alam, and Umama Fatema.
Furthermore, the Managing Director of Bangladesh News Agency (BSS) Mahbub Morshed and the Director General of Bangla Academy Professor Dr. Azam were also there.
“Awami League killed hundreds of people. In the last 15 years, they completely demolished all the institutions. Even in 2008, they came to power through rigging,” said Asif Nazrul.
He further stated that reformation is needed for achieving democracy and for that, everyone needs to be patient.
Another guest at the meeting Dr Ali Riaz expressed gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives in the July-August mass uprising.
He said, “Sheikh Hasina’s government took away the basic human rights of people. Every institution has been demolished to establish the rule of one single individual ”
