Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said on Tuesday the government will take necessary steps against extortionists in the garments sector as it is aware enough of the crime, reports BSS.
“The government is enough aware of it (extortion). If the garment sector is affected due to extortion and it will, of course, take necessary actions in this regard,” he told a press briefing at Foreign Service Academy Tuesday evening.
Responding to a question, Azad said the government has already given all sorts of instructions to police asking it to take action against those involved in extortion.
About recent unrest in RMG sector, he said it (unrest) has been brought under tolerable level at present.
About 99.26% of garment factories were open in Savar, Ashulia and Gazipur as normalcy has returned to the RMG sector in the country, according to Chief Adviser's press wing.
No untoward incidents were reported in the garments industry in Savar, Ashulia, Narayanganj and Gazipur as of today, it added.
Currently, three factories (including two factories as per rule 13(1)) out of 407 are closed in Savar and Ashulia areas. All factories in Narayanganj are opened. Two factories out of 871 are shut throughout the Gazipur area, it said.
