On Wednesday, two teams from the Ministry of Commerce conducted raids at various kitchen markets in Dhaka in order to control the prices of essential goods.
According to a press release, the market monitoring teams fined several businesses a total of Tk12,500 for irregularities, including price hikes and failure to comply with regulations.
The inspections took place at Mohammadpur Krishi Market and Fakirapul Kitchen Market, where the teams assessed the prices of essential products such as rice, eggs, lentils, vegetables, and chicken.
Led by Jannatul Ferdous, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, a team conducted a raid at Mohammadpur Krishi Market. The team reviewed price lists displayed by shop owners and examined their purchase and sales receipts.
On the other hand, Amit Deb Nath( senior assistant secretary) led another team and conducted a raid at Fakirapul Kitchen Market, inspecting the prices of items like eggs, onions, green chilies, chicken, and rice.
The monitoring teams noted a slight decrease in the prices of eggs and onions and emphasized the importance of displaying updated price lists for chicken, rice, potatoes, onions, and other essential commodities.
