A Narayanganj court on Sunday placed former textiles and jute minister Golam Dastagir Gazi on a fresh remand for eight days in four murder cases filed at Siddhirganj Police Station, reports Daily Sun.
With this, he has been put on remand for the fourth time in connection with murders that took place during the quota reform movement and the subsequent mass upsurge.
Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Kazi Mohammad Mohsen granted a two-day remand in each case when police produced the former minister before the court seeking a 10-day remand in cases each, said court police Inspector Abdul Rashid.
Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan, the lawyer for the plaintiffs, said Golam Dastagir Gazi was shown arrested in four cases filed over the murders.
As per the case statements, the former minister was involved in the killings of hotel employee M Shahin, garment worker Minarul Islam and M Tuhin on 20 July, and Hussain on 21 July as they joined the students' movement seeking quota reform.
On 18 September, he was put on a five-day remand in a case filed over the murder of Parvez at Fatullah Police Station. Besides, the former minister was remanded for six days in two other murder cases on 1 September.
Furthermore, Golam Dastagir Gazi was put on a six-day remand on 25 August in a murder case filed on 21 August in connection with the killing of a Class X student in Rupganj of Narayanganj.
A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police picked him up from a house in Shantinagar of the capital in the early hours of 25 August.
