Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Prof Dr Asif Nazrul on Saturday said real justice will be established in the country, coming out of the culture of harassment by using the judiciary, reports BSS.

"We want to establish real justice. We want to get out of the culture of harassing people and wiping out people's livelihoods by using arbitrary cases and the judiciary," he said.

The adviser was speaking as special guest at a function where Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed addressed all judges, lawyers and judicial officials from across the country in the Inner Garden of the Supreme Court.

Harassing people by implicating in cases even though they were not involved in the offense is not supported by this interim government, he said, adding the culture of harassing people using the judiciary should be stopped and the judges should look into the unnecessarily harassment of the citizens.

Law adviser said during the tenure of the ousted fascist government, led by Sheikh Hasina, there was huge injustice in the judiciary and many people were harassed with false cases, adding, "It should be ensured that there is no more injustice in the judiciary."

The interim government properly evaluates the merit, competence and integrity of the judges and the appointment of the incumbent chief justice is a big proof of it, Dr. Asif Nazrul said.

Referring to the judges of the High Court Division who got embarrassed when people sought justice in cases, he said, "It is the constitutional responsibility of the judges to ensure justice. He can reject an application if necessary. But why do they get embarrassed?"

The law adviser was very critical about attacks on the accused on the court premises, saying that there is no room in the country's law to launch any attack on them (detainees) on the court premises or elsewhere.

To avoid such a situation, he said, the judges can take the help of the bar leaders and the concerned parties as well.

Citing various examples, the law adviser said the process of recruitment test for appointing judges to the Higher Courts is being considered.

Dr Asif Nazrul said initiatives are being taken to resolve various discriminations of lower court judges.

Referring to the ousted Awami League regime, he said no other fascist and autocratic government in this subcontinent had killed so many people as one thousand people had to sacrifice their valuable lives in the July-August movement.

He said many people received serious injuries and many others became blind and crippled while only nine people had to die to unseat the dictatorial government in Sri Lanka and earlier in Bangladesh too, 26 people had to die during the nine-year autocratic regime of Ershad.

Sheikh Hasina's fascist government suddenly took thousands of lives and it ordered to kill more people to stay in the state-power.
