A clash erupted between supporters of the former Khatib (narrator) and the current Imam (man who administers the prayer) at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka during Jummah prayers on Friday, reports Daily Sun.
At least three people were injured in the incident. However, police arrested one person after tackling the situation.
Sources said the mosque's current khatib Hafez Maulana Dr. Mufti Waliur Rahman Khan was delivering Khutbah (religious speech for jummah prayer) while followers of Maulana Mufti Ruhul Amin, a former khatib who went into hiding after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government on 5 August, reached the mosque. After his arrival, Mufti Ruhul Amin attempted to take control of the microphone, which led to a physical confrontation between his followers and those of the current khatib.
The altercation resulted in several injuries and caused panic among the regular devotees. On information, army personnel quickly arrived at the mosque to tackle the situation and restore order.
