Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Mayor Ariful Haque said he will not participate in the upcoming city corporation elections.
Ariful made the announcement at a citizen’s rally at Registry ground in Sylhet city on Saturday afternoon.
He said the decision was taken in line with his party's directives. Ariful is a central member of BNP.
In his speech, Ariful Haque criticised several moves by the present government and the election commission.
He also urged the Sylhet people not to cast their votes in the SCC polls.
