Eid is the largest religious festival for Muslims across the world. But the day does not always appear to be euphoric to the poor people for lack of money, new clothes and rich foods. Sometimes, philanthropic and rich people extend help to the poor.
Showing humanistic gesture, Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has presented 9,000 poor people at Kotalipara in Gopalganj with gift items ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Sheikh Helal Uddin, Awami League Lawmaker from Bagerhat-1 constituency and cousin of Sheikh Hasina, handed over the gifts to presidents and general secretaries of various union units of Awami League.
The Prime Minister’s gifts included 3,000 sharies, 3,000 punjabies, 500 lungies and food items.
Handover of the gifts took place at Kotalipara upazila Awami League office on Sunday, reports Daily Sun.
Besides, Sheikh Helal Uddin distributed Tk 11,40,000 to be spent for iftar of devotees at various mosques in the upazila.
Md Shahid Ullah Khandaker, former senior secretary and now entrusted with implementing development projects in Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's constituency Gopalganj-3, SM Kamal Hossain, organising secretary of Awami League, Gazi Hafizur Rahman Liku, assistant private secretary -2 of Prime Minister, Bhabendra Nath Biswas, president of Kotalipara Awami League, Ainal Hossain Sheikh, its general secretary, Mujibur Rahman Hawlader, vice-president of upazila Awami League, HM Ahidul Islam , its joint general secretary, Motiar Rahman Hazra, mayor of local municipality, and Jahangir Hossain Khan, local Awami League leader, among others, were present.
Earlier, 2,500 packets of rice, lentils, vermicelli, sugar, milk, edible oil and other food ingredients were distributed among insolvent people as PM’s gifts, said Ainal Hossain Sheikh.
“We have distributed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Eid gifts among 9,000 poor and destitute so far”, he added.
Md Shahid Ullah Khandaker said “Distribution of shari, munjabi, lungi and food items is not confined to Kotalipara, The PM’s Eid gifts are reaching the doorsteps of poor in other parts of the country also.”
About poor-friendly steps of Awami League government, he said nobody of the country has been deprived of Eid joy under the current rule.
“The Awami League government has spread happiness of Eid among Muslims as well as people of other religions,” he continued.
