Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held two smugglers with 17 gold bars measuring 1.983kg from Benapole bordering area on Saturday.
The arrestees are Hafizur Rahman, 34, son of Azizur Rahman and Mehdi Hasan, 21, son of Abdul Karim, hailing from Putkhali village under Benapole Police Station.
However, two other members of the smuggling group fled the spot avoiding arrest.
The duo is identified as Abdul Mannan, 32, son of Abul Kashem, and Moin Uddin, 28, son of Jahir Uddin, of Balunda village under the same police station.
Lt Col Tanvir Rahman, commander of 21 BGB Battalion, said the BGB conducted a raid based on intelligence report and arrested the smugglers from a place which is around 400 yards off the 17/7 boundary pillar.
He said BGB arrested two smugglers and seized 17 gold bars worth Tk 1.5 crore. A motorcycle was also seized from the arrestees.
