Benapole Customs intelligence officials arrested a man along with nine gold bars weighting over 1 kg from the check post of the land port in Benapole of Jashore on Monday morning.
The detainee is identified as Siddiqur Rahman, 46, son of Abdul Gani Molla hailed from Singra Bunia village of Bamna Upazila of Barguna district.
Moniruzzaman Chowdhury, assistant director of Benapole Customs House, said acting on secret information, the members of customs intelligence took a position in the immigration area. They arrested Siddiqur later on and seized gold bars worth Tk 80 lakh from his possession.
The smugler has been handed over to the Benapole Port police station along with the gold bars, he said.
Meanwhile, customs detectives and BGB arrested two smugglers and seized 2.2kg of gold from the border in the last 24 hours.
