The power supply has been restored in some areas of the capital Dhaka and some other areas of the country gradually following a blackout due to a fault in transmission lines of the national grid.
Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO) MD Kawser Amir Ali said electricity supply has been restored at the airport and Uttara area in the evening.
An official of the Power Division said authorities of the power sector have restored power supply at the Bangladesh secretariat, Biduyt Bhaban, Manik Nagar, Bangabhaban, Mirpur, Mohammadpur and Baridhara areas along with some other important establishments in the capital.
Meanwhile, power supply was restored in Tangail, Kishoreganj, Mymensingh, Jamalpur and Manikganj districts and partly areas of Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Chattogram, Sylhet and Siddhirganj.
Earlier in the afternoon, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said the electricity situation will be restored within 2-3 hours all over the country.
Nasrul Hamid hoped that the blackout to end within the evening.
Power Division Secretary Md Habibur Rahman also assured the ongoing blackout across the country will end within Tuesday evening.
On the other hand, the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) said the electricity supply will become normal at night.
The national power transmission grid failed at 2:05 pm – causing a blackout across Bangladesh, except in some parts of the north.
According to Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and PGCB, the transmission line tripped somewhere in the eastern part of the country.
