New Charge d’affaires (CDA) in US embassy in Dhaka Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson on Sunday retreated Washington’s support for the interim government efforts to chart a prosperous and democratic path for the Bangladeshi people.
She reassured the US support when met for the first time with Adviser for Foreign Affairs Md. Touhid Hossain and Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin respectively at the foreign ministry in the capital, reports BSS.
“Ambassador Jacobson underscored the strong partnership between our two countries, and our support for the interim government’s efforts to chart a prosperous and democratic path for the Bangladeshi people,” the US embassy stated in an official Facebook post following the meetings.
During the meetings, the new envoy discussed shared interests and priorities between the United States and Bangladesh, according to the post.
The US Charge d’affaires held the meetings, one day ahead of the inauguration ceremony of US President-elect to be held in Washington D.C.
Meanwhile, in a media statement Bangladesh foreign ministry said, both the foreign adviser and the CDA affirmed commitment to deepening the Bangladesh-US relationship in the areas of mutual interests including trade, investment, human rights, labour reforms, and repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingyas.
“Apprising the CDA of the progress of ongoing reform activities, the foreign adviser reiterated the commitment of the interim government to arrange a free, fair, and credible election as expressed by the Hon’ble Chief Adviser,” read the statement.
It said that the foreign adviser thanked the US Government for appreciating and supporting the reform actions undertaken by the interim government.
The new CDA reaffirmed the continued support from the US government to Bangladesh’s ongoing democratic transition.
“Ambassador Jacobson appreciated the interim government for its continued efforts to consensus-building among the political parties,” said the ministry’s statement.
Ambassador Jacobson showed high optimism about achieving macroeconomic stability and sound economic footing of Bangladesh for the current economic and financial reforms.
The foreign adviser assured her of providing full support during her tenure in Bangladesh and expressed desire that the bilateral relations will reach a newer height during her tenure, said the ministry.
