National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam's grandson Babul Kazi has passed away after surviving injuries from gas light explosion.
Babul Kazi, 59, died while undergoing treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute at around 5:30 pm on Sunday.
Shaon Bin Rahman, resident physician at the emergency department of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, confirmed it.
He said Babul Kazi, grandson of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, who was burned in a gas lighter explosion in the washroom, died on life support in the ICU while undergoing treatment. 74 percent of his body was burned.
Earlier, Babul Kazi was burned in a gas lighter explosion in the washroom at his Banani residence at around 5 am on Saturday. Later, he was taken to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in a critical condition. As his physical condition deteriorated, he was given life support. At the same time, a 16-member medical board was formed for his treatment.
