Yemeni forces have carried out an operation against US aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman in the Red Sea which lasted nine hours.
They targeted the US strike group with several cruise missiles and kamikaze drones, Brigadier General Yahya Saree said in a statement aired on Yemen’s al-Masirah television channel on Saturday night, Press TV reported.
“This is the fifth time we have targeted the aircraft carrier since its arrival in the Red Sea,” the spokesman said.
“The operation achieved its goals successfully and forced the aircraft carrier to leave the theater of operations and flee to the far north of the Red Sea,” Saree added.
The operation was in support of the Palestinians in Gaza and in response to the first joint aggression by the US, Britain and Israel against Yemen, he said.
Earlier on Friday, at least one person was killed and nine others were injured in the air raids which targeted a power station in the capital Sana’a as well as sites in the northwestern province of 'Amran, and the Red Sea port city of Hudaydah.
US and British forces deployed to the Red Sea have repeatedly attacked Yemen's military and civilian infrastructure in a bid to dissuade the country from targeting Israeli-occupied territories and Israel-linked vessels sailing in the region.
Yahya Saree pledged that Yemen's armed forces will launch more attacks against Israeli assets within the occupied territories until the “aggression against Gaza stops and the siege is lifted.”
