Two young men suffocated to death in their home in Sector 70 after leaving a gas stove on overnight, police said on Saturday, reports Times of India.
The victims, identified as Kapendra (22) and Shivam (23), were residents of Mamura, Sector 70, under the jurisdiction of Phase 3 police station at Noida in Delhi.
According to police sources, the district hospital in Sector 30 informed them about the incident. The two men, originally from Sambhal, had been living in a 10 feet-by-10-feet room where they operated a cart selling chole-kulche.
A senior police officer said: “It is believed that on the night of their death, the young men put peas to boil on the stove and fell asleep without turning off the gas. The peas started burning in the vessel, leading to the room filling with smoke and carbon monoxide.”
The officer added that neighbors noticed the smoke and broke open the door after the duo did not wake up until 7:30am, only to find them dead.
"They appeared to have died due to suffocation," the officer said.
The bodies were taken to the district hospital there doctors inspect their bodies and found no other injury marks. Police have informed their families and the legal actions are underway.
