Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been presented at the Islamabad Police Lines, which has been given the status of a court venue as a "one-time dispensation", a day after he was arrested from the premises of the Islamabad High Court in relation to the Al-Qadir Trust investigation by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), reports Dawn.
At the outset of the hearing, NAB requested the court to grant 14-day physical remand of Imran.
Imran Khan’s lawyer opposed the request and said that the case did not fall within the bureau's ambit.
He further said that NAB had not shared the inquiry report either.
"Everyone has the right to a fair trial," he said, calling for the hearing to be held in an open court.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan was indicted by the court on charges that he unlawfully sold state gifts during his premiership between 2018-22.
The indictment followed a decision by the Election Commission of Pakistan last October which found Khan guilty of illegally selling state gifts and barred him from holding public office until the next election. He has denied any wrongdoing.
The PTI chief has been taken into custody by paramilitary forces, local GEO TV reported on Tuesday.
Imran Khan has been arrested during a court appearance in capital Islamabad.
After being removed from his position as Prime Minister through a no-confidence vote in April of the previous year, Imran Khan has been linked to more than one hundred incidents.
He believes that the US-led conspiracy was aimed at him because of his independent foreign policy decisions regarding Russia, China, and Afghanistan.
