Renowned Indian author Samaresh Majumdar was laid to rest on Tuesday afternoon.
The writer was cremated at the Nimtala crematorium in Kolkata, confirmed by his daughter Doyal Majumdar.
Earlier his body was kept at Shyampukur Street in Kolkata to pay last respects.
Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata Andalib Elias, First Secretary (Press) Ranjan Sen, Mayor of Kolkata, Minister in Charge - Urban Development & Municipal Affairs Government of West Bengal Firhad Hakim, BJP leader Samik Bhattacharya, Provincial delegation of Congress, Left Front Secretary Biman Bose, Bengal CPI(M) leader Mohammad Salim, and West Bengal Women and Children Affairs Minister Shashi Panja paid their last tribute to the writer by placing floral wreathe.
Samaresh Majumdar passed away on Monday.
He was 81.
He breathed his last at 5:45 pm local time on Monday at a hospital in Kolkata.
His novel Kalbela, Kalpurush and Mousalkal is considered a modern classic.
Kalbela won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1984.
He is also known for creating the detective character Arjun, who is the central character of the 2013 film Arjun – Kalimpong E Sitaharan.
The Bengali film Buno Haansh, which was released on 15 August 2014, is also based on his novel of the same name, which was published in Pujabarshiki Anondolok.

Samares Mazumdar was born on March 10, 1944.
The West Bengal government conferred the ‘Bangavibhushan’ honour to Samaresh Majumder in 2018. Apart from this, he has been awarded numerous honours including Sahitya Akademi Award, Anand Award, and BFJA Award.
