The Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court has ordered the filing of objections against the Police Bureau of Investigation's (PBI) final report in the Arshad Waliur Rahman murder case. The decision follows a revision hearing on Thursday, which was led by Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib.
The PBI had previously cleared several individuals, including Transcom Group CEO Simeen Rahman and her family members, after conducting its investigation. These figures were named in the case filed by Shahzreh Huq, the younger sister of the deceased Arshad Waliur Rahman. The final report, submitted in December 2023, led to their acquittal, but Shahzreh Huq challenged the findings, prompting the court's intervention.
Arshad Waliur Rahman, son of Transcom Group founder Latifur Rahman, was found dead in his Gulshan home on June 16, 2023. His death was initially suspected to be the result of poisoning or strangulation. The plaintiff, Shahzreh Huq, alleges that Arshad's death was a premeditated act to seize his wealth and assets, and named 11 individuals, including his elder sister Simeen Rahman, in the case.
The court previously ordered an autopsy and the exhumation of Arshad’s body in March 2023, which revealed further questions surrounding his death. The decision to file objections against the PBI's final report has kept the case in the public eye, as legal experts and the general public await further developments.
