National Citizens Party (NCP) has demanded the cancellation of the Awami League's (AL) registration during the trial.
The party's convener, Md. Nahid Islam, made this demand on behalf of the party at a press conference at 8 pm on Friday. The press conference was held at Rupayan Tower in Bangla Motor in the capital.
In a written statement at the press conference, Nahid Islam said, “Even though seven months have passed since the student-citizen uprising, there has been no visible progress in the trial of the murderers of the Awami League, including the genocide leader Sheikh Hasina. The recent report of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights clearly states that the crimes committed in Bangladesh in July are international crimes.”
“Despite such a clear international statement regarding Awami League's crimes against humanity, the slowness of the judicial process is highly condemnable. The National Citizens Party (NCP) immediately wants to see visible progress in the trial of the disappearances and extrajudicial killings committed during the past fascist regime, including the July genocide.”
The written statement states that any kind of activity in favor of keeping active Awami League without trial, acceptance of responsibility, repentance, and atonement for the crimes committed is tantamount to rehabilitating fascists.
It further states that the NCP wants assurance of trial of other genocides and crimes against humanity committed by the previous fascist regime, including the July genocide. The registration of the Awami League should be cancelled during the trial and the NCP is committed to resisting any attempt by this mafia group to return to politics.
