BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman said that Sheikh Hasina has torn up the constitution as she wishes and the whole world has seen that the fugitive dictator has repeatedly come to power illegally without respecting the constitution.
He said, “By making secondary issues the main issue in the political arena, doubts have been created among the anti-fascist unity. Therefore, the interim government should not take any steps that will allow fugitive tyrant’s allies to be rehabilitated in the state and politics. Local elections before the national elections mean giving an opportunity to the supporters of the fallen dictatorship who are lying in wait, giving them a chance to be rehabilitated.”
He said this while joining the Iftar Mahfil program in honor of professionals and prominent citizens at the Ladies Club in the capital on Friday, from London.
The BNP Acting Chairman said that the door of immense possibilities has opened after the fall of the mafia government. The talents of professionals must be utilized to take the state forward.
He said, “Currently, reforms and elections have been brought face to face, which is politically motivated. Reforms never end; it is an ongoing process. Reforms will be sustainable and effective through the democratic practice of the people.”
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman also commented that the country cannot run well if civil society and professionals are weak in the state.
He said, “BNP has proposed a bicameral legislature in the constitution. Begum Zia made this proposal in 2016.”
Addressing those who talk about elections after reforms, he said, “What ends is not reforms, but what is ongoing is reforms.”
