The US President Donald Trump has dismissed reports by The New York Times and other outlets that his billionaire aide will receive a Pentagon briefing about how the US would handle a war with China, reports Al Jazeera.
The Times had reported, citing unidentified sources, that Musk was scheduled to attend the briefing today, raising concerns about possible conflicts of interest given his business dealings with Chinese companies.
Trump went on the offensive against the report, attacking the newspaper’s White House reporter with personal insults. He also lambasted CNN for reporting on the story.
“Their FAKE concept for this story is that because Elon does some business in China, that he is very conflicted and would immediately go to top Chinese officials and ‘spill the beans’,” Trump wrote in a social media post.
The US president suggested that the story is not only false, but also “libelous”.
“The Fake News is the enemy of the people… and Elon is not being briefed on anything Achina by the department of war!!!” Trump added.
