Inqilab Mancha activists staged a demonstration at Dhaka's Kakrail Mosque intersection on Sunday, demanding the cancellation of the Awami League's registration and increased safety for students and citizens.
The protest began after law enforcement halted the group's march toward the Chief Adviser’s residence, "Jamuna." By 3:30 PM, protesters blocked the intersection by lying on the road, causing minor traffic disruptions as vehicles were diverted through side streets due to the small number of participants.
The group presented three primary demands: the immediate cancellation of the Awami League's registration, accusing the party of committing genocide; the arrest of individuals allegedly affiliated with the Awami League, labeled as terrorists, to safeguard patriotic students; and comprehensive protection for all "July fighters," including private university students, throughout Bangladesh.
Sharif Osman Hadi, the group’s spokesperson, warned of further escalation, including roadblocks and a mass hunger strike, unless their demands are addressed or a meeting is arranged with the Chief Adviser.
The protest began earlier in the day at 12:30 PM with a procession starting from the Shahbagh National Museum. The group marched past Matsyabhaban and reached Kakrail Mosque by 1:00 PM, where they were stopped by police and APBN personnel. Despite law enforcement's intervention, the activists continued with a sit-in demonstration, vowing to intensify their movement if their demands remain unmet.
