Diabetes, heart disease and ovarian cancer can creep in without early warning signs. An Indian doctor explains how to spot them.
Many diseases in women develop silently, making early detection challenging. Dr. Suneer Kaur Malhotra, associate director of obstetrics and gynecology at Max Super Specialty Hospital in India, emphasized that serious conditions often show minimal symptoms until reaching advanced stages.
She highlighted three silent diseases that can turn fatal if undiagnosed, reports Hindustan Times.
Ovarian cancer
Ovarian cancer, with a rate of 6.8 per lakh women in India, often goes unnoticed due to a lack of early symptoms. Dr. Malhotra recommends regular ultrasounds, especially for those with a family history, as the best method for early detection.
Heart disease
Heart disease presents differently in women compared to men. Symptoms such as jaw, breast, or shoulder pain are more vague and can lead to misdiagnosis. Dr. Malhotra stressed the importance of awareness and regular heart checkups for early detection.
Diabetes
Diabetes also progresses silently, with noticeable symptoms like recurrent infections appearing only in advanced stages. Dr. Malhotra advises regular blood sugar checkups, particularly for those with a family history, along with lifestyle changes to prevent and detect the disease early.
