Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan announced that new rules to control noise pollution will be finalized in December, granting police greater authority to address the issue.
Speaking at an awareness program in Gulshan, she stressed that fines and jail terms alone are not enough to combat noise pollution. "Public awareness and responsible behavior are key," she said.
She warned of the harmful effects of noise pollution on mental and physical health and called for collective action to reduce it. Addressing car owners, Rizwana urged them to imagine driving without using their horns. "Don't honk," she said, and advised lowering vehicle speed to reduce accident risks.
Special measures will be implemented in 10 areas of Dhaka to tackle noise pollution, she added, emphasizing that a livable, noise-free city is possible with everyone's cooperation.
The event was attended by several officials, including RAJUK Chairman Major General (retd.) Md. Siddikur Rahman Sarkar and Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahmudul Hasan.
After the program, Rizwana visited Gulshan Lake, where she directed the installation of a sewage treatment plant to address its pollution.
