Ferry operations on the Paturia-Daulatdia route were suspended for six hours due to dense fog, leaving over a hundred vehicles stranded at both terminals.
Nasir Chowdhury, Deputy General Manager of the Aricha Sector, explained that the suspension was necessary as "dense fog is a natural phenomenon," and operations could not resume until visibility improved. The ferry services restarted at 8:30 am when the fog began to clear.
According to officials from the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), the fog started intensifying around midnight and completely enveloped the waterway by 2:30 am. To ensure safety and avoid potential maritime accidents, ferries carrying vehicles were stopped at the terminals until conditions improved.
The suspension caused delays for various vehicles, including trucks, private cars, and microbuses, which remained on hold until the ferry services resumed.
