Police arrested a life-term fugitive convict from Nazirpur upazila in Pirojpur district on Wednesday, according to a press release from the district police, reports BSS.
The arrested individual, Md Kuddus Howlader, 56, son of Abdul Mannan Howlader, had been convicted under the Women and Child Repression Prevention Act 28 years ago. After the case was filed, Howlader fled the area and went into hiding.
On February 2, 1999, a Jhalokati court sentenced Md Kuddus to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Tk 5,000.
A police team, led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmud Al Farid of Nazirpur Thana, conducted a raid in the Pashchim Baniari area of Nazirpur upazila around noon today, where they apprehended Howlader.
He was subsequently handed over to the local police station for further legal proceedings.
