Joint forces have arrested three persons along with Taka 1.16 crore and seized two private cars along with foreign currency from the city's Uttara area, reports BSS.
The arrested were identified as Shahjada Khan Sajjad, Md Towhidul Islam and Md Saiful Islam, according to a statement issued by the media centre of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Monday.
The joint operations were carried out by Bangladesh Armed Forces and Uttara Thana Police at house no-7, road no-23 and sector no-7 at Uttara.
The joint forces, being informed, conducted the drive in the house and arrested three people along with Taka 1.16 crore and foreign currency.
The law enforcement team recovered Taka 1.16 crore cash, $6,586, Thai baht 45,100, UAE dirham 10,150, Canadian dollar 500, Singapore dollar, Saudi Arabian currency and other currencies from their possession.
The team also recovered bulletproof jackets with POLICE written in English on both sides and two private cars (Land Cruiser ZX Hard jeep Toyota M crop 2021 and a Harrier Hard jeep Toyota M crop 2014.
The statement mentioned that the bulletproof jackets were used allegedly by fugitive Dhaka-18 ex-lawmaker Mohammad Habib Hasan and his son Abir Hasan Tamim during the anti-discrimination student movement.
The house was Abir Hasan Tamim's father-in-law.
The arrested suspects said that the seized money, foreign currency and cars belong to former lawmaker Mohammad Habib Hasan and his family.
Legal procedure is underway against them.
