On August 5, a mass uprising led to the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government. As a result, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina fled to India and most of the leaders and activists of the party have gone into hiding from the central to the grassroots level.
Meanwhile, from India, Sheikh Hasina called on the leaders and activists to gather at Dhanmondi 32 on August 15 to observe the day of mourning.
