Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Dr Kh Mahid Uddin said if anyone tries to block the road in the name of movement defying the court order and creates public nuisance, the police will take strict action as per existing law.
Mahid Uddin made the warning while addressing a press conference at the Headquarters on Thursday afternoon, Daily Sun reports.
The DMP official said, “The court gave an instruction on Wednesday regarding the quota. From that point of view, there is no room for movement on the issue. We request that the protesting students refrain from organising further events that may cause public inconvenience, at least for the next four weeks. If public distress continues in the name of agitation, the police will take action according to the rules.”
"We have sympathy and love for the students. But we have to be respectful to the High Court ... We are requesting that no programmes be held that cause suffering to the people," he said.
"I think the latest order of the Supreme Court goes in favour of the students," he added.
