The nature is burning in the intense heat of summer season. The hardworking common people are in trouble due to intense heat. In this situation, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has arranged artificial rain on various roads of the capital to reduce air pollution and intense heat. DNCC is spraying water on the streets with two spray cannons and 10 sprinklers.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam inaugurated the program at Agargaon in the capital on Saturday.
Atiqul Islam said on the occasion, Bushra Afrin, chief heat officer of Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center, a US-based research institute assigned to DNCC, suggested to arrange an 'artificial rain' on the streets. As part of that, DNCC has arranged 'artificial rain' through two spray cannons.
The mayor said, “We will sprinkle four lakh liters of water every day with two vehicles. Water will be provided on important roads of the city from 11 am to 4 pm. However, the vehicles will not be able to go to the lanes, but will remain on the main roads. And 10 browsers have been arranged to sprinkle water on the road. Each browser holds 15,000 liters of water.”
Last year, 80 thousand trees were planted in different areas of the city, Atiqul Islam said.
“Last year we planted 80 thousand trees in different areas of the city on the advice of the Chief Heat Officer. This time we are preparing to plant another 1 lakh 20 thousand trees. We will start this program soon after the onset of monsoon season. Besides, we are giving great importance to the maintenance of these trees. We are involving the respective communities in the area where the trees are being planted.”
Chief hit officer Bushra Afrin is not a member of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), said Mayor Atiqul Islam. He said there is no designated seating area for him in the DNCC office.
