Dhaka University on Tuesday hosted a seminar to commemorate India’s support in Bangladesh’s War of Liberation by marking the 52nd anniversary of the ceremonial farewell accorded by the Indian allied force to the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhaka Stadium, before their return to India on Tuesday.
Addressing the event as a special guest, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma described the day as one of the historic moments in the saga of India’s unstinting support to the people of Bangladesh in their freedom struggle, UNB reported.
He thanked Dhaka University for hosting the commemorative event, which he said was an important step towards ensuring that the younger generation in both our countries imbibed our shared history and preserved the memory and legacy of our shared sacrifices during the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
Verma affirmed that India had stood with the people of Bangladesh during the Liberation War of 1971 and will continue to stand with them in realizing their vision of a stable, prosperous and progressive nation.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan joined as the chief guest at the event, which was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal.
