The Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) election will be held tomorrow (Thursday) as the election campaign ended last night.
The voting will be held from 8 am to 4 pm without any break.
Vote cast will be held at 480 voting centres.
A total of eight candidates are contesting for the mayoral post while 246 candidates will contest for the post of general councillor and 79 candidates for reserved seats.
Awami League nominated candidate Advocate Azmat Ulla Khan is vying with boat symbol while Jatiya Party nominated candidate M.M Niaz Uddin with plough, Islami Andolan Bangladesh nominated candidate Gazi Ataur Rahman with a hand fan, Gana Front supported candidate Atiqul Islam with fish, and Zaker's Party nominee Raju Ahmed with rose are contesting for the post of mayor.
Besides, three independent candidates, former mayor Jahangir Alam's mother Zayeda Khatun will contest the election with a table clock symbol while Harun-or-Rashid with a horse symbol and Sarkar Shah Nur Islam with the elephant symbol.
There are a total of 11.79 lakh voters in the city. Of them, 5.92 lakh are male and 5.86 lakh are women while 18 are third gender.
The election commission has already completed all preparations to hold the polls free and fair.
A total of 13,000 members of law enforcement agencies will be deployed in Gazipur centering the election.
Duties were distributed among the law enforcers during a briefing at Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur on Wednesday morning.
The government has announced a general holiday in Gazipur tomorrow following the voting.
