A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted bail to daily Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman until August 16 in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
Judge Md Asaduzzaman of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the order after Matiur Rahman pleaded for bail by surrendering before the court and submitted an application to furnish a bail bond through his lawyer, reports BSS.
The court also fixed August 16 for the next hearing in the case, said Advocate Prashanta Kumar Karmakar, lawyer of the defendant.
Advocate Abdul Maleque alias Mashiur Maleque filed the case under the Digital Security Act (DSA) against Bangla daily Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman, reporter Shamsuzzaman Shams and a camera person with Ramna Police station on May 29.
According to the first information report (FIR) of the case, the accused were charged of tarnishing the country's image and reputation by using print, online and electronic media.
