Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury called upon to ensure the participation of all by removing discrimination between males and females in using technology and its invention to build a smart Bangladesh announced by the Awami League government.
She made the call while addressing a discussion and Joyeeta award distribution ceremony marking International Women's Day at Shishu Academy auditorium in the capital as the chief guest on Wednesday.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatunnesa Indira presided over the function while Women and Children Affairs Ministry Secretary Hasanuzzaman Kallol delivered the welcome speech.
UN Bangladesh resident coordinator Stefan Liller spoke at the event as a special guest.
Mentioning that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken an effective legal model and plans to take forward the women, the Speaker said women today are becoming economically self-reliant by taking various pieces of training.
She said many women are contributing to society and the country after performing their duty at home.
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said women are working with a reputation as entrepreneurs and they are contributing to the country’s economic development by creating employment.
She also hoped that women could play an important role to build a smart Bangladesh within 2041 if they get a proper chance.
The Speaker later handed over the Joyeeta award to five selected women for their contribution to society.
