A Dhaka court on Monday extended the bail of former Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat until October 20 in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on the charge of acquiring wealth beyond known income.
Dhaka Special Court-6 Judge Asad Md Asifuzzaman passed the order.
The court also fixed October 20 as the date for the next hearing, reports BSS.
Samrat was present before the court during the hearing. The defence pleaded for his permanent bail, while ACC opposed the plea. After hearing both the parties, the court passed the order.
A mobile court sentenced Samrat to six months of jail term for possessing wildlife hides.
A case was filed against him under the Arms and Drugs Act for possession of arms and drugs. Later, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed a case against him under the Money Laundering Act and the ACC filed a case alleging illegal acquisition of assets.
On October 6, 2019, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Samrat from a village in Cumilla's Chauddagram upazila.
