The video-based social platform TikTok has removed a total of 12,158,745 video contents in Bangladesh in the second quarter of 2024.
It was much greater than the 7,171,832 video in the first quarter, according to a press release by the social media giant.
Proactive removal rates in Bangladesh remained high at 99.6%, with 97.2% of these videos removed within 24 hours, it said.
Globally, TikTok removed a total of 178 million videos worldwide in this quarter, which represents about 1.0% of all content uploaded to the platform.
Of the removed videos, 144,430,133 were detected and taken down using automated detection technologies, while 5,394,318 videos were reinstated after further review. The proactive removal rate stood at 98.2%, with 93.5% of the flagged content removed within 24 hours of posting.
"This technological advancement enables TikTok to scale its moderation efforts and maintain a secure environment for its growing global community. With a proactive detection rate now at 98.2%, TikTok is more efficient than ever at addressing harmful content before users encounter it. The report also highlights a 50% reduction in the number of restored videos, reinforcing the accuracy and effectiveness of TikTok's content moderation systems," it said.
This also indicates that a significant portion of removed videos — 31% — contained sensitive or mature themes that did not align with TikTok's content policies.
An additional 15.1% of videos breached the platform's safety and civility standards, while 4.7% violated privacy and security guidelines.
Similar to last quarter, TikTok will continue to provide a summary of the Covert Influence Operations (CIO) networks removed, while detailed information on individual operations disrupted is available in a new standalone report. -- revise and use at 6
