The Bangladesh cricket team departed Dhaka for the USA early on Thursday to participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, reports UNB.
The team, accompanied by the coaching staff, is set to compete in a three-match T20I series against the hosts, USA, ahead of the main tournament. These matches are expected to aid the Tigers in adapting to the conditions of the USA.
Following the series, Bangladesh will play two practice matches.
The Tigers' first World Cup match is scheduled for June 8th in Dallas against Sri Lanka. Their second group stage encounter will be against South Africa in New York. The team will then travel to the West Indies to play their remaining group stage matches.
Despite the anticipation surrounding the event, both captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and coach Chandika Hathurusingha have tempered expectations. Bangladesh have yet to achieve significant success in T20 World Cups.
The traveling squad includes two reserve players: Afif Hossain and Hasan Mahmud. They will be incorporated into the main squad only if necessary, due to injury or other unforeseen circumstances.
