Bangladesh Women cricket team lost the three-match ODI series to Australia with a match to go as they suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of the visting 'Mighty Aussies' in the second match on Sunday held at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
The Tigresses, as they were adorable called, tasted a 118-run defeat in the first match. They were all out for 95 in the first match and kept the trend of being bowled out below hundred in the second game too as they were bundled out for 97 in 44.1 overs after opting to bat first.
No. 9 batter Nahida Akter was the top-scorer for the side with 22 while Fahima Khatun (11) and Ritu Moni (10) were the two other players to reach double digits. But what aided them was that they got 20 runs from extras, which put them closer to 100-run mark.
Sophie Molineux wrecked havoc on Bangladesh women’s team, having registered figures of 10-5-10-3. Ashleigh Gardner, Alana King and Georgia Wareham claimed two wickets apiece.
Australian Women’s team however raced to 98-4 in 23.5 overs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead with star batter Ellyse Perry leading the charge with 35 not out. Ashleigh Gardner was unbeaten on 20.
Sultana Khatun and Rabeya Khan took one wicket apiece for Bangladesh.
The third and final ODI is on March 27 at the same venue after which the two teams will play a three-match T20 International series.
