The Chairman of Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd Sayem Sobhan Anvir, also the Managing Director of the country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, credited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the club’s success in domestic football.
Sheikh Russel KC started the ongoing season with an optimistic note as they became runners-up in the recently concluded 12th Bashundhara Group Independence Cup 2022.
The giants gave a tough fight to Bashundhara Kings in the thrilling final of the competition but unfortunately conceded a 1(2)-4(2) goals defeat in the tiebreaker.
However, the club emerged unbeaten champions from the four-team Group A with 2-0, 3-0 wins over Navy Football Team, Mohammedan Sporting Club and a 1-1 draw with Fortis Football Club.
On their way to final, they beat Chittagong Abahoni Ltd by 1-0 goals in the quarters and champions Dhaka Abahani Ltd by 3-2 goals in semis.
“All this credit goes to our Honorable Prime Minister only. I’m just managing the club on behalf of her, but the total credit goes to one and only to our Prime Minister, no one else. And I thank her for supporting me in every possible way. I wish the best to all players, coaches and officials of the club,” said the club Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir on Saturday.
Congratulating the team on their feats in the Independence Cup, the Chairman further said, “Congratulations to all of you for the runners-up trophy. We became runners-up two times. Don't we need the championship? We want to be the champions. We want the number one position. I hope you (the club) will bring the championship trophy.”
Later, he gifted Tk 10 lakh to the players, coaches and officials for ending runners-up in the season curtain-raiser event Bashundhara Group Independence Cup 2022.

The programme was held at his residence in the Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka on Saturday morning, reports Daily Sun.
Bashundhara Kings President and Bangladesh Football Federation Vice-President Imrul Hassan, Editor-in-Chief of the Kaler Kantho Imdadul Haq Milan, Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam, Sheikh Russel’s finance director Md Fakhruddin, director Maksudur Rahman, the club’s other life-time members, permanent members, players, coaching and supporting staffs, were officials were present on the occasion.
Imrul Hassan, Imdadul Haq Milan, Naem Nizam congratulated Sheikh Russel Chairman and wished the club best for the upcoming season. They also praised Sayem Sobhan Anvir for his dynamic leadership, support and long visions.
“I congratulate Sheikh Russel Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir sir, management, players, coaches and officials. As Kings President I hope both Kings and Sheikh Russel will share all the four major titles of domestic competitions this year,” said Imrul Hassan.
“Today Sheikh Russel KC reached at the satisfactory level of which credit goes to the Chairman. He has played the main role behind the club’s success. We all want Sheikh Russel to reach the summit of success. We are grateful to him,” said Imdadul Haq Milan, also a director of Sheikh Russel KC.
“Sheikh Russel Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir has been providing us with all supports. Now, it is our turn to give him cups. We started with runners-up trophy. Now, we have to bring the championship trophy,” said Naem Nizam, also a director of Sheikh Russel KC.
Sheikh Russel captain Jamal Bhuyan, who is also the captain of Bangladesh National Football Team, gave thanks to Sayem Sobhan Anvir for providing the club with all support and facilities and promised to bring trophies for him.
