Australia defeated England comprehensively by 72 runs in second one day international match of the bilateral series held at Sydney in Australia on Saturday.
With this win Australia lead the 3 match-series 2-0 and confirmed the series win, too.
Winning the toss, the host elected to bat first. Workmanlike innings from Steven Smith and decent batting from Marnus Labuchagne and Mitchel Marsh took the Aussie to 280 for 8. Smith scored 94 of 114 balls, Marsh 50 off 59 balls, while Labuchagne hammered 58 off 55 balls.
England’s Adil Rashid took 3 wickets for 57 runs.
In reply, England fell into trouble from the very beginning of their innings and lost 2 wickets without having a run on the scoreboard. James Vince and Sam Billings tried to repair the innings but that wasn’t enough to chase the target down. Billings scored 71 off 80 and Vince scored 60 off 72 balls. England were all out of 208 runs in 38.5 overs.
Mitchel Starc and Adam Zampa was stared with balls for Australia as they both grabbed 4 wickets by giving away 47 and 45 runs respectively.
For his brilliant bowling performance, Starc was judged Player of the Match.
