Simon Kinberg is set to embark on an exciting new journey, securing a major deal to write and produce an upcoming trilogy of Star Wars films.
Kinberg will lead the creation of a new saga within the iconic Star Wars universe, writing the scripts for a trilogy that Lucasfilm aims to use as a foundation for a fresh direction in the beloved sci-fi space opera.
Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, will also produce the new Star Wars trilogy. Unlike previous installments, this new saga will not continue the Skywalker Saga—comprising Episodes 1 through 9. Instead, it will introduce entirely new characters and a fresh storyline, marking a departure from the established narrative.
Kinberg brings extensive *Star Wars* experience to the project, having co-created the animated series *Star Wars: Rebels* alongside Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck. The Emmy-nominated show ran for four seasons, from 2014 to 2018.
Kinberg also played a key role in the relaunch of *Star Wars* following Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm, serving as a consultant on the 2015 film *The Force Awakens*.
Kinberg is a well-established figure in the genre space, having contributed to the X-Men films at Fox, including serving as a producer on Logan and the first two Deadpool movies, among other key roles. He is also preparing to go into production on Edgar Wright's adaptation of Stephen King's The Running Man for Paramount.
As one of the busiest creatives in Hollywood, Kinberg is also involved in developing the *Star Trek* franchise for Paramount, a role he took on this past spring. He is expected to have an active producing role on the film side of the *Star Trek* universe. Sources indicate that Kinberg will continue to balance both projects, managing his duties in the *Star Wars* galaxy with his work on the *Star Trek* frontier.
