Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has announced an allocation of Tk 500 crore in the 2027-28 fiscal year to make citizen services more people-friendly using artificial intelligence (AI).
He said this in the budget speech for the 2026-27 fiscal year in the National Parliament on Thursday.
The Finance Minister has said that artificial intelligence (AI), the electronics industry and the innovative capabilities of the youth are being considered as important driving forces for national development and modernization. The government has taken artificial intelligence (AI) as a big opportunity for the development and modernization of the country.
He said, “Initiatives have been taken to build smart cities using AI and make citizen services more people-friendly, and to make the young generation suitable and skilled for the future workplace by including AI in the education system.”
The Finance Minister said, “The government has decided on a strategy in the new budget for this purpose. The government aims to create startups, freelancing, content creators and AI technology-based entrepreneurs by utilizing the skills, creativity and innovative power of the young population. Decision-making will be made more effective and dynamic by using AI-driven data centers for government planning and service delivery.”
He also said that using artificial intelligence will improve the quality of citizen services, increase efficiency, transparency and accountability in administrative activities.
The Finance Minister said, “These initiatives will play an important role in transforming Bangladesh into an innovation-based, technology-rich and self-reliant nation. Considering the potential of the information technology sector, I propose to allocate Tk 500 crore in the next fiscal year 2026-27 to encourage new entrepreneurs in this sector. This money will be used as a 'start-up fund' to create women entrepreneurs, develop women and create young entrepreneurs.”
