Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has started placing the proposed national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
The Finance Minister is placing his first and the country's 55th budget proposal for the new government at 3 pm on Thursday.
Before that, the session of the National Assembly began with the recitation of the Quran. Speaker of the National Assembly Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram is presiding over it.
Earlier in the morning, a special cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman approved the proposed national budget of Tk 938,000 crore for the 2026-27 fiscal year, which is the largest in the country's history.
This budget has been formulated keeping in mind the theme 'Economic Democratization and Decentralization: Bangladesh on the Path to a Trillion Dollar Economy'.
The government has set inflation control, accelerating economic growth, employment creation and increasing investment as the main priorities of this year's budget. The budget has set a target of bringing inflation down to 7.5 percent.
