Dhaka court on Wednesday ordered the arrest of seven individuals, including former Law Minister Anisul Huq and former Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, in connection with multiple cases filed over killings during the anti-discrimination student movement on 2024, reports BSS.
The other five accused are former State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder, former Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, former Dhaka-7 lawmaker Solaiman Salim, and journalist couple Shakil Ahmed and Farzana Rupa.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam passed the order after police produced them before the court and pleaded for their arrest in the cases.
Of the seven, Anisul, Shajahan, and Atiqul were shown arrested in three separate murder cases related to protests, all filed with Jatrabari Police Station. Kamal Ahmed Majumder and Solaiman Salim were implicated in two cases filed with Mirpur Model Police Station and Lalbagh Police Station respectively. Meanwhile, Shakil Ahmed and Farzana Rupa were shown arrested in separate cases also lodged at Jatrabari Police Station.
Anisul Huq was apprehended from Sadarghat on August 13, 2024, while allegedly attempting to flee the capital via waterways. Shajahan Khan was arrested from the city's Dhanmondi area on September 5, and Atiqul Islam was detained in Mohakhali DOHS on October 16, 2024.
On October 18, 2024, Kamal Ahmed Majumder was arrested from Gulshan while Solaiman Salim was taken into custody from the same area on November 14.
