Tarique Rahman urges all to nourish teachings of Ramadan

BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on sunday has called upon the countrymen to encourage each other in doing good deeds and discourage from wrongdoings during the holy month of Ramadan.

“The verses of the Holy Qur'an teach us to encourage our relatives, friends, and everyone around us to do good deeds and discourage bad deeds. If we are able to do this from our respective positions, we will gradually be able to build a society and country that we desire,” he said.

Tarique Rahman was addressing virtually an Iftar-mahfil from London, organized by BNP on the first day of Ramadan to honor religious scholars (Ulama Mashayekh) and orphans, at the Ladies Club at Eskaton in the capital.

A total 80 orphan students from the Farmgate Islami Mission Madrasa and Shantinagar Bazaar National Muslim Madrasa participated in the Iftar event.

Tarique Rahman said, “Ramadan teaches us to practice self-restraint. It teaches us how to be patient, how to stand beside people from a humanitarian perspective. At the same time, it teaches us to stand by all of Allah’s creations. Ramadan teaches us to take care of the creations.”

BNP acting chairman called upon all to pray for the well-being of the people and for peace and prosperity of Bangladesh.

“Let us raise our hands in prayer on the first day of Ramadan for our parents, for the orphans present here who have lost their loved ones, and for all of us,” he said.

BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, who chaired the event, emphasized on maintaining the sanctity of Ramadan.

“Ramadan teaches us several important things,” he said adding “Always speaking the truth, staying on the path of truth, being impartial, and working for the benefit of humanity. These are the lessons Ramadan teaches us.”

Member of BNP Standing Committee Mirza Abbas raised concerns about efforts to create divisions between the party and religious scholars both inside and outside the country.

“This division will not only affect the BNP but will create fractures within the nation. These divisions will invite foreign interference and ultimately harm the country,” he said.

BNP Standing Committee members- Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed also addressed the programme, moderated by BNP's Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku.

BNP Religious Affairs Secretary Rafiqul Islam Jamal, Assistant Religious Affairs Secretary Abdul Bari Dani, Jatiya Imam Shamity president Moulana Kazi Abu, Islamic Scholar Moulana Wali Ullah, Dhaka Residential Model College Mosque Mufti Mohiuddin and several other distinguished religious leaders were present on the occasion.
