The government has declared February 25 as 'National Martyred Soldiers' Day'.
It was declared in a circular from the government's Cabinet Division on Sunday. Deputy secretary Tania Afroz signed the circular.
The circular states, "The government has declared February 25 every year as 'National Martyred Soldiers Day' and has decided to include it as a 'C' category day to be observed as a national day except for government holidays. All the ministries/departments/organizations concerned have been requested to follow this decision properly."
On February 25, 2009, 74 people, including 57 army officers, were killed in the Pilkhana massacre. This time, the sacrifice of the army members was given national recognition by observing the mournful and heartbreaking day as a state holiday.
